Planter Boxes & Benches (Deck System)

Another outdoor project and another New Yankee Workshop™ Project.  This project was made with Cypress... A first for me here at the shop.  It was easy to work with and was easy on the price as well.  There are three boxes that connect with Mortise & Tenon joints, The post are laminated (two pieces of Cypress) and the panel is 1/2" MDO Plywood.  MDO holds up well with outdoor projects and gives a nice finish.  The connecting benches are Cypress.  The main sections are 1 7/8" thick and half-lap joints were used to connect the long and short rails.  The seat slats are fitted in dados on the side rails and supported by cross members in between the rails.  The boxes are primed and painted and the benches are sealed with Teak Oil.  This is a raffle prize for our Church.  (3/2007)
