French Country TableFirst we start with the legs. They start as 8/4 stock glued together to form a square blanks that looks like this...
After sizing it up to 3 1/2" square...
I made a template, traced it out, cut the mortises and cut the legs. Then after cutting the legs, there was allot of hand work shaving, sanding, and using a cabinet scraper to get the legs refined.
Next it was setting up the rails, the drawer opening and glue up the top. When all that was done, I formed the decorative bead on the rails and in the perimeter of the top and rounded the top edge. Then it was assembled. (Except the top which is loose here.)
After that, the top was attached with clips and I made the drawer. Cherry front and poplar sides, back, and 1/4" plywood bottom.
Look at the bottom. The drawer rails are in place and the drawer moves fine. You'll also see the clip that hold the top to the rails but still allow it to move with climate changes.
Now for the finish. I used a combination of dye, shellac, and gel stain. Then it gets 6 coats of poly, then a rub down. And the end result...
