Irish TableThese are the parts... Clear Yellow Pine cleaned up and ready to be worked.
Here I'm laying out the boards for the top. It's been glued up...
... and ready to cut.
For the base, I first cut two mortises on each leg for the rails, then the legs were tapered with my shop-made tapering jig
And the end result... A nice tapered leg.
Now with the tenons cut on the rails and fitted into the mortises on the legs, the base comes together.
Now I need to make the blank for the top into a round top. Not only is this the first time making a round top, but it's the first time making and using a circle cutting jig.
Not bad for a first time.
All that's left now is to attach it to the base. That happens with clips that fit in the grooves made in the rails.
And here it is!
Now for the finish. First the table has been sanded upto 220. Then the grained was raised then sanded again at 220. Next was a coat of 2# cut wax free blond shellac to act as a sanding seal. The a 1# cut or Orange Shellac to give some depth in color. Afterwards I applied a coat of a Warm Cherry Oil Base Stain. The sealer is 3 coats of a Oil Based Urethane and furniture wax on the top for the final step.
