Media Cabinets
This would be the first commissioned project done out of my shop. A local University has Media Rooms where there are computers hooked up to LANs, big screen projectors, and have additional audio and video equipment. The cabinets they had were store bought, the doors broken, and a fixed shelf that was not working for them. So I was brought in to build two new ones. Basically the height would be the same as what they had (49"), but the width (28") and the depth (18 1/2") are smaller than the old cabinets. The two big issues were doors that can move out of the way and an adjustable shelf. I had given them both the doors on 270 degree hinges as well as the adjustable shelf. The cabinet framework, stretcher, and 1/2" plywood back will keep it square and strong for years. There are four adjustable casters to level it and the door catches are simple clips that are not magnetic. All constructed from solid oak and oak plywood (3/4" and 1/2") and stained to match the entry door, which is the only substantial wood item in the rooms. (5/2006) |
