X-Leg Picnic Table & Benches

A neighbor across the street asked about building an X-Leg shaped picnic table & benches.  Seemed like an easy project.  Well.... Not that easy...  But here it is.  I found out the hard way that making the legs based on the plans only can lead to mistakes.  But building the legs with the aid of a jig does have advantages.  That's how these legs were planned.  I also modified the plans I had to make the benches 13 1/2" wide opposed to 11" and the legs are actually closer together on the top side which makes a wider base where it hits the turf.  That will prevent tipping.  This table and bench is wider and longer than the plans called for (70"L x 31"W x 30"H for the table, 70"L x 13 1/2"W and 18"H for the benches) so for the benches a middle leg was incorporated for support.  For the table, an additional pair of cleats were installed to help keep the tabletop flat.  All made from dimensional 2X Redwood stock and sealed with the same sealer I use on the English Garden Bench.
