Rhodes Ave. Woodsmith Handcrafted Wood Furniture and Custom Cabinets
|
Pilgrim Virgin Statue BoxThis is the original one that I got the measurements from...
Started with sizing the plywood and forming the rabbets for assembly. Basic cabinetry steps done here.
The Walnut trim also doubles as the leg supports. To do this, a Rabbet was formed on one edge stopping about an inch from the end using the Router Table.
Then the end of the rabbet was squared up using an hand chisel
Next to the Tablesaw to rip them to 3/4" square
The corner trim/support parts were assembled as well as trim pieces that run as rails. The top is solid Walnut rabbetted to fit over the top edges of the carcass.
The doors are Maple plywood to keep the weight light and trimmed out with Walnut strips. A 1/8" rabbet was cut down the end where the doors meet to form a overlap.
After the doors were assembled, the hinges were attached as well as the handle and the brass knobs. It was finished with a #1 cut of wax-free blond Shellac with sanding between three coats. (220, 320, 600 grit) This is the end result.
