Pilgrim Virgin Statue Box
I'm going to do my best to explain this... Our Church (and some Catholic Churches do this) has small statues that travel from house to house within the parish boundaries. They are known as Pilgrim Virgin Statues. To protect them, and make them easy to move, they are in small cabinets or wooden boxes and the statues are fixed inside the box. When a household gets the statue, they usually will have family or friends come over and pray the Rosary, Novenas, or simply have a small prayer service. After a day or two, it's passed on to the next house. The Legion of Mary in our parish keeps track of the statues and who has them. They are expanding the program and needed two more boxes for the statues. That's where I come in. These were built out of 1/2" Maple plywood to keep them as light as possible. To hide the plywood edges and give the boxes a decorative detail, Walnut was used to trim the boxes, make the top, and trim the doors. It was finished with three coats of 1lb cut wax-free shellac sanded between each coat. (11/2005) |
